The DOJO

Shinbōshin is an authorised Dojo of the Hyoho Niten Ichi-ryu UK Shibu, based in Basingstoke, Hampshire, in the south of England.

We are dedicated to practising the Koryu (samurai era) school of Hyoho Niten Ichi-ryu, which was founded by the legendary Japanese swordsman Miyamoto Musashi.  Today Hyoho Niten Ichi-ryu is under the guidance of the 12th Generation Soke - Kajiya Takanori Kougen.

The Dojo is led by Eduardo Patrizio who formed the group in 2014 on the advice of the UK Shibu and is authorised by Kajiya-soke in Japan.

We train locally in Basingstoke and also supplement our training with regular national keiko (practise) with the Hyoho Niten Ichi-ryu UK Shibu throughout the year.

As well as the physical practise of this ryu, we also dedicate some time to reviewing Miyamoto Musashi's famous written work; Go Rin no Sho (The Book of Five Rings), a text on Kenjutsu (sword fighting) and Hyoho (strategy).  Today, Go Rin no Sho plays an important part to the Hyoho Niten Ichi-ryu student, learning the sword, strategy and philosophy left by Musashi-sensei.

As a traditional Dojo of Japanese Martial Arts, we also incorporate opportunities to experience Japanese cultural traditions and experiences.

As part of our practice we have a Zen Kenkyukai 'Zen Study Group'

based on meditation practice in Japan.

We have also had visits by Master Calligrapher Koshu Shihan, who has kindly performed Shodo and Sumi-e (Japanese calligraphy and ink painting) demonstrations and talks on Japanese art.

As well as opportunity to train with Kajiya-soke at our annual European Gasshuku (Training Camp), we arranged visits to Japan for training in Hyoho Niten Ichi-ryu, including a cultural tour of the country.

We are;

  • A non-profit martial arts school.

  • Affiliated and authorised by Hyoho Niten Ichi-ryu in Japan.

  • A fully insured Dojo with Martial Arts Independent UK.

  • Enhanced DBS Checked.
